MISSION STATEMENT
To Honor our Old Ways and Traditions, History, Culture, Spirituality and People;
To Reunite all Wea People from Around the World;
To Belong, to Teach, to Understand, and to Share with all Walks of Life;
To Maintain Dignity, Honor, Integrity, Love, and Respect for Our Future Generations.



WEA:
Any person or family having a genealogical blood-line by a descendent to any person or family on any Federal Census, State, County, private document or personal family record, which describes a person as Wea Indian by blood or a descendent of and as described by the “Enrollment Material” below.
Note: Piankeshaw Indians do apply because they are the Deer Band of the Wea Nation. There are also Eel River Wea and mix blood Wea/Miami's who may enroll.


ENROLLMENT:
Any adult who is described as a Wea Indian By Blood. A person who is able to provide a proper genealogical or family blood-line by a direct Ancestor or descendent to any other person, living or deceased, that is recognized as a Wea Native American Indian person.


ELIGIBILITY FOR ENROLLMENT:
A) Any person may apply for Tribal Membership as long as the Tribal Rolls are open to accept new membership.

B) Eligibility shall be considered for all persons submitting a proper genealogical lineage to the WIT genealogist. Based on proof of lineage (see below) an enrollment membership application will be sent to the applicant. The Applicant will return the membership application with the fee of $20.00 USD for enrollment into the WIT. This fee is non-refundable.

C) Tribal Membership shall be open to all of the following persons:

1) Enrolled Tribal Member(s) immediate family By Wea Blood.

2) Extended family members (cousins etc.) of Enrolled Member By Wea Blood, after demonstrating proper family connection, documentation and genealogy to said Member By Blood.

3) Persons legally married to or adopted by Member By Wea Blood. However, these persons will not be listed as a Member By Wea Blood, unless they can provide a direct Blood Lineage to a Wea Indian Ancestor or descendent and supply proof.

4) Any Wea “Blood Descendent" who is able to document his/her Ancestry by Federal Native American Indian Rolls, Census Rolls or any other documents which describes a person as being a Wea Indian.

5) Any person(s) who is actively attempting to determine themselves as a “Blood Descendent” but do not yet have a direct genealogical link to a known Wea Indian person, living or deceased. Membership may be approved as a “Probationary Member” for up to one (1) year at a time.

D) “Probationary Member” after due consideration by the Tribal Genealogist; Probationary membership may be given an additional one (1) year with approval.


BLOOD DESCENDENT: A person who is able to provide a proven genealogical or family blood-line by direct Ancestor or descendent to any other person (living or deceased) that is recognized as a Wea Native American Indian person.

ADOPTED MEMBER: Is allowed under certain circumstances but must have a majority vote of the Tribal Council and Advisory Board/Clan Mothers, and the judgment is made on individual basis as they may arise. Indian (Non-Wea Blood) and Non-Indian (White or of other ethnic group) falls into the adoption category.

HONORABLE MEMBER: Is allowed under certain circumstances but must have a majority vote of the Tribal Council and Advisory Board/Clan Mothers, and the judgment is made on individual basis as they may arise. Honorary Members have no rights in the Tribe and cannot vote.

ENROLLMENT APPLICATION: A membership application issued by the WIT to any person seeking to enroll as a member of the Tribe.

APPLICATION FEE: The initial sum of money paid (in USD) to cover all administrative costs, including processing of the application and genealogy research involved in accepting a person into the WIT as a member, paid upon submission of application. Sum set at $20.00 until revised. This fee is non-refundable.

DUAL TRIBAL ENROLLMENT/MEMBERSHIP:
1) No person shall be a member of the WIT, who is also enrolled with another Wea Indian Tribe, faction/splinter group, band, organization or other such groups.

2) No person shall be a member of the WIT, who is a member of another Indiana State Recognized Tribe, Nation or Band.
